More than 300 protesters were detained in Turkey on Saturday

More than 300 people were detained after rallies in support of detained Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu in Turkey on Saturday, and one policeman was doused with acid, the country’s general Directorate of Security said on the social network X.

On Wednesday, the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor’s Office announced the detention of Imamoglu in the case of an organization engaged in corruption, bribery, bribery and assistance to terrorist activities. The opposition politician himself stated that he “does not intend to give up” under pressure from the authorities. The detention of the mayor of Istanbul led to mass protests. On Saturday, the politician testified for five hours at the Palace of Justice. According to the A Haber TV channel, he denied accusations of links with terrorist organizations and criticized the method of his detention. The Turkish prosecutor’s office has asked the court to arrest the detained mayor of Istanbul on charges of terrorism and corruption,  the mayor’s office reports.

“323 suspects were detained during the protests last night. One policeman was attacked with acid,” the General Directorate of Security reported.
