Italian, Turkish foreign ministers hold phone call

The foreign ministers of Italy and Turkey held the phone conversation on Monday, YeniSafak reports.

During their phone conversation, the two top diplomats have discussed the latest developments in the region, including the migration issue.

Turkey’s Mevlut Cavusoglu and Italy’s Luigi Di Maio also talked about the EU, Cyprus, the Eastern Mediterranean and Libya. The ministers have shared plans on strengthening the bilateral relations and fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, Turkey’s foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu tagged in a tweet his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio and said he was deeply saddened by the horrific attack on the Italian ambassador in DR Congo.

The 43-year-old ambassador Attanasio was among three people killed in the attack on a United Nations convoy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
