Several thousand people gathered in the center of Buenos Aires for another protest against the government.
⠀
The action was again organized by Argentine trade unions. They timed it to coincide with the national strike, which is taking place on Wednesday. People gathered outside the Congress building, where President Javier Miley’s emergency reforms are being discussed.
⠀
Protesters occupied several streets adjacent to the Congress Square. The building itself is under a tight police ring. Water jets are on duty near the crowded area. However, in general the situation is quite calm.
⠀
Earlier, Argentine President Javier Miley signed an emergency decree on more than 300 reforms to liberalize the economy, they affect all areas and are currently being considered by parliament.
⠀
In particular, the decree includes the abolition of the current law on rental housing, which both tenants and landlords were dissatisfied with, and the abolition of price regulation, which was practiced by the previous government, setting a price ceiling for sensitive goods.
⠀
The decree also provides for the reform of labor legislation, contributions to the healthcare system, and opens the way for the privatization of state-owned companies.
