The ruling Georgian Dream party has announced cases of foreign interference in the election campaign.

Parliamentary elections will be held in Georgia on October 26th.

“We would like to inform the public about pre-election violations identified in the activities of opposition parties, a number of observation organizations and the media from September 16 to October 6. These violations relate to foreign interference in elections, interference in the electoral process and discrediting the electoral process,” Givi Mikanadze, a member of the ruling Georgian Dream party and the parliamentary majority, said at a briefing.

According to him, on October 1, the Chairman of the Committee on External Relations of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, published information on how Georgian citizens living abroad can register to vote in the elections. He released the contact details of two people who, according to him, will assist Georgian citizens in the registration procedure, “which is clearly foreign interference in the election processes.”

“Starting October 1, the US Embassy systematically posted cards on its Facebook page, the content of which was political in nature depending on the context and reflected the opposite position of the government team. On October 4, the EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky publicly stated that the information posted on the advertising banners as part of the Georgian Dream election campaign, is “shameful, shocking and disgusting,” Mikanadze said.
