France supported the ICC’s request to issue an arrest warrant against Netanyahu and Hamas leaders.

France has supported a request by the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor to issue an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, as well as three Hamas leaders, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. This was stated by the French Foreign Ministry.

“France supports the International Criminal Court, its independence and the fight against impunity in all situations,” a statement on the diplomatic website in response to the ICC prosecutor’s petition said.

On May 20, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan asked the Pre-Trial Chamber to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Galant. According to him, the prosecutor’s office has collected evidence that suggests that Netanyahu and Galant “are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Palestinian territory (in the Gaza Strip) since at least October 8, 2023.” At the same time, the prosecutor demanded the issuance of arrest warrants for three Hamas leaders.
