Employees of German ports went on strike.

Employees of German ports went on strike.

A warning strike of employees is taking place in the ports of the German cities of Hamburg and Bremen, Matthias Schulz, a spokesman for the port of Hamburg said.

“There are warning strikes in Hamburg and Bremen,” Schulz said.

Strikes also affected the ports of Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and Emden. Around 800 people are reported to be taking part in the strike in Bremerhaven.

A similar warning strike was already organized in northern German ports by the country’s second largest trade union, Ver.di, in mid-June.

Ver.di demands an increase in wages for port employees by 3 euros per hour from June 1. The next round of negotiations between the union and employers will take place on Thursday-Friday in Bremen.
