Graff Diamonds has denied that this deal was ever struck, Donald Trump’s words regarding the price of Melania’s engagement ring weren’t a truth, Forbes reported.
Laurence Graff, the jeweller’s chairman, told Forbes that Trump’s claim was not true. According to Trump, the engagement ring for his fiancee was valued at $1.5million in 2005.
Ever eager to boast of his deal-making skills, Trump did little to dismiss reports he may have been given the ring for free in exchange for the publicity. But the week before his wedding in 2005, Trump insisted that he had paid for the ring – but had been given a huge discount.
“Only a fool would say, ‘No thank you, I want to pay a million dollars more for a diamond’,”
Trump proudly told the New York Times.
Laurence Graff said the company did Trump no favours, though the billionaire was “a pleasure to do business with.” Nicholas Paine, jeweller company’s C.F.O. reiterated,
“We don’t sell items for publicity value.”
The First Lady’s office hasn’t commented on the story, Melania will never give details about her engagement ring. She has much more important things to do, undoubtedly. Melania Trump came in for criticism for posing in the blinging rock for her official portrait which some found distasteful and “gaudy”.
In 2015, Donald Trump bought Melania a second diamond ring worth $3million from Graff to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary.
