Chinese representative Li Hui will take part in the talks on Ukraine in Jeddah.

Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui will attend a meeting on the Ukrainian issue in Saudi Arabia, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

“At the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Chinese Government Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui will travel to Jeddah to attend an international meeting on Ukraine. China is ready to work with the international community to play a constructive role in promoting a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” the statement on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Earlier it was reported that Saudi Arabia intends to hold talks on Ukraine in Jeddah in August, which will invite representatives of up to 30 countries, but not Russia. A number of countries have already confirmed their participation, including the US, UK, South Africa, Poland and the EU. In turn, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that his government would not participate in the negotiations without Russia.

China was also reportedly invited to the meeting. It is noted that the participation of Beijing “will be a victory for both the Ukrainians and the Saudis.”
