Canadian regulator bans broadcasting of RT and RT France TV channels due to events in Ukraine

The Canadian authorities considered it appropriate to ban the broadcasting of RT and RT France TV channels in the country due to the situation in Ukraine.

“The Commission considers that further authorization of the broadcasting of RT (formerly known as Russia Today) and RT France is not in the public interest,” the Canadian regulator said. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced earlier that the EU was blocking the work of the Russian media.

This was one of the sanctions measures in connection with the special operation in Ukraine. RT, Sputnik are among the many that will make the list, as well as their subsidiaries. The TikTok and Instagram accounts of these Russian media outlets have already stopped working in the EU, Meta will generally restrict access to them in the EU. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the imposition of sanctions against journalists, athletes, and musicians was very unexpected. Certainly there have been appeals.
