Brazil is concerned about the issuance of an arrest warrant for Gonzalez.

Brazil is extremely concerned about the issuance of a warrant for the detention of former Venezuelan presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez.

On Tuesday, the Venezuelan prosecutor general’s office said that the Venezuelan control court of first instance has issued a detention warrant for Edmundo Gonzalez, a former presidential candidate of the united right-wing opposition, who failed to appear three times when subpoenaed to testify.

“The arrest warrant for Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez is “extremely troubling” and a “wrong move,” Celsa Amorima, Brazil’s international affairs adviser said.

The adviser to the President of Brazil also said that the situation with the elections in Venezuela has not yet been resolved.

“We don’t see victory on either side,” Amorima said.

Earlier, the issuance of an arrest warrant for Gonzalez was condemned by a number of Latin American countries, including Panama, Argentina, Ecuador and Peru, as well as the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
