Borrell offered Turkey cooperation in the fight against sanctions evasion.

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, as part of a report prepared for the leaders of the European Union countries on EU relations with Turkey, proposed resuming the high-level dialogue interrupted in 2019 in the Association Council in exchange, among other things, for Ankara’s cooperation in the fight against circumventing European sanctions against Russia.

“We recommend the resumption of the high-level dialogue within the Association Council, suspended in 2019,” Borrell said during  his press conference.

He added that Brussels expects Turkey to “maintain calm in the Eastern Mediterranean,” initiatives around the Cyprus settlement, as well as “cooperation to prevent circumvention of sanctions against Russia.”

Dialogue within the EU-Turkey Association Council was suspended in 2019 in response to drilling in Cypriot territorial waters.
