Bahrain has recalled its ambassador from Israel and severed economic relations with the Jewish state, the country’s Council of Representatives (lower house of parliament) announced on its website.
⠀
“This is a confirmation of Bahrain’s strong historical position in support of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, as stated by His Majesty the King at all conferences and events,” the lawmakers said.
⠀
The lower house noted that the continuation of hostilities, as well as “the ongoing Israeli escalation in light of non-compliance with international humanitarian law,” is forcing Bahrain to take more decisions and measures aimed at preserving the lives of Palestinian civilians.
⠀
Bahrain established diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020 as part of the US-initiated Abraham Accords to improve relations between the countries of the Arab world and Tel Aviv.

Earlier, due to the worsening situation in the region, Jordan, Colombia and Chile recalled their ambassadors from Israel, and Bolivia announced a severance of relations with the Jewish state.
