Albania accuses Iran of cyberattack and breaks off diplomatic relations

Albania accused Iran of attempting a cyberattack against the Albanian public service and broke off diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic, Prime Minister Edi Ramu said.

It is noted that all Iranian diplomats are ordered to leave Albania within 24 hours.

“This decision was notified in an official note to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, all diplomatic and technical-administrative personnel, including security personnel, who were ordered to leave the territory of the Republic of Albania within 24 hours,” the Albanian prime minister said.

As indicated in Albania, Iran tried to carry out a cyber attack against government services on July 15, including allegedly funding various groups for these purposes, the purpose of the cyber attack was allegedly to paralyze systems and steal government data.

“The attack failed, and the damage can be regarded as small, and in coordination with specialized agencies, it was proved that the cyber attack was carried out by Iran, which financed four different groups to attack Albania,” Rama added.
