A suspect in plotting a terrorist attack in the United States was detained in France.

French police detained a 22-year-old Afghan citizen as part of a case of preparing a terrorist attack in the United States during the presidential elections in November, it became known from a statement by the French national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office.

“French police have detained a 22-year-old Afghan man with ties to a compatriot in the US who is suspected of planning an election day attack,” the statement said.

It is noted that a man detained in France is suspected of supporting IS.

It became known that the Afghan detained in France may be the brother of a compatriot detained in the United States, but prosecutors were unable to confirm this information.


Initially, three people were detained in the case in southwest France, but two of them were later released.


On Wednesday, the US Department of Justice said that an Afghan man living in the US state of Oklahoma was arrested for planning a terrorist attack on behalf of the Islamic State on Election Day on November 5.
