A mass protest of railway employees is taking place in Poland.

A mass protest of employees of the Polish Railways (PKP) is taking place in the city of Katowice.

“At 8 am in Katowice, a protest began on the tracks against layoffs at PKP Cargo and PKP Cargotabor. According to the Katowice trade union Solidarity, more than 100 people are blocking the railway line passing through the city center,” local media said.

“Premier, save me,” “Don’t fire me,” the protesters wrote on their banners. The organizers claim that they have exhausted all possibilities to resolve the problem through negotiations and see no other way out other than protest. Due to the blockade, many passengers and businesses faced logistical difficulties. Trains are taking a detour.

PKP Cargo and PKP Cargotabor decided to lay off about 30% of their employees. This is almost 5 thousand people. The company has to take such a step due to financial difficulties caused by the loss of the market, contracts and high competition.
