Theresa May, the British Prime Minister, and her Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau had a phone conversation on Saturday. Mrs May expressed condolences about the shooting in Quebec and briefed him on the results of her visit to the U.S.
Theresa May called Mr Trudeau to say she is concerned with the shooting in Quebec City and to inform the Canadian PM on the results of her visit to the White House and meeting with Donald Trump.
During the phone conversation, the prime ministers shared their opinions about trade and NAFTA renegotiation, especially in the light of the recent changes in the US politics. According to Mrs May, the US President has been opposed to multilateral trade agreements and pursued an ‘America First’ agenda.
The Prime Ministers expressed their hope on the maintaining trade ties and starting conversations on the potential for a bilateral free trade agreement once the U.K. has left the EU. According to the officials, the Canadian and British economists have been laying the fundamental base for a possible trade agreement in post-Brexit period.
