Scarlett Johansson stars in adaptation of cult Japanese anime ‘Ghost in the Shell’

Scarlett Johansson has played a new movie, the actress is a robot geisha in the adaptation of 1992 Japanese anime ‘Ghost in the Shell’. Paramount Pictures made a film based on the cult manga about the adventures of a robotic Geisha, which serves in the special forces of Tokyo.

Scarlett Johansson has unveiled some details about her new movie. In Tokyo, the Hollywood actress the much-anticipated trailer of her recent movie ‘Ghost in the Shell’. Paramount Pictures created a film on the base of the famous Japanese manga, which was released in 1992 by Masamune Shirow.

Johansson stars as The Major, the half-human, half-cyborg leader of an elite task force. Her team charged with hunting down the most dangerous criminals and extremists. Scarlett said about the ‘Ghost’:

‘I think this film for me is really – even though it’s set in this explosive world that’s just extraordinary and so visually stunning and so action-packed – it’s really, to me, a coming-of-age story and a story about the loss of innocence and then also the kind of rebirth that you can have from that.’

Johansson and whitewashing accusations

Ms Johansson played a role of an Asian girl, this fact caused major controversy, leading to accusations of whitewashing. Director Rupert Sanders responded immediately and shortly–Scarlett is the best actress of her generation and did an incredible job of nuancing the human evolving through the machine.

It was a performance Johansson described as the hardest actor work:

“When you play a character that is some step removed from human and you don’t have the nuance and the tools of those little things that make us human, it’s just a very challenging experience because there’s so much going on inside but what’s going on inside, it’s impossible to reflect completely outside,”

she said.

Scarlett Johansson wasn’t the only star on set, Sanders invited Juliette Binoche, Pilou Asbæk and Takeshi Kitano. The US release of the ‘Ghost in the Shell’ planned for March 31, 2017.
