Leonard Cohen, legendary singer, dies aged 82

Leonard Cohen died at the age of 82, his family told press this sad news. The legendary singer and songwriter’s work inspired generations, musicians from all over the world sends their condolences to the family. The music icon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.

Leonard Cohen died in Los Angeles on Thursday 10 November, the music legend was 82, this post to his official Facebook informed the world of the musician’s passing. The Canadian cultural icon has a great impact on the music over decades.

In 2008, the legendary poet, songwriter and artist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His family requests some privacy during these days, it informed fans of the memorial, which will take place in Los Angeles at a later date.

Leonard Cohen’s forum informed his fans about his death on Monday 7 November, the singer has already been buried in a private ceremony in Montreal. The Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau wrote on his Twitter:

‘No other artist’s music felt or sounded like Leonard Cohen’s. Yet his work resonated across generations. Canada and the world will miss him.’

In a recent interview with the New Yorker, Mr Cohen spoke about the prospect of death with calmness:

“I am ready to die. I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.”

 

Cohen’s influence on the music industry has been likened to that of his contemporaries Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell and is perhaps best known for his song ‘Hallelujah’. After the performing of this song by Alexandra Burke (winner in the UK by 2008 X-Factor), Cohen gave just one short comment: ‘I think it’s a good song, but I think too many people sing it.’
