Nobel Prize in medicine this year won Japanese biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi, he offered the way how cells break down and recycle content, a garbage disposal system. The Japanese scientist’s discovery allow biologists to hope to harness in the fight against cancer, Alzheimer’s and other incurable diseases.
Nobel Prize won the Japanese biologist, the 71-year-old Professor from Tokyo has developed the revolutionary way for the cell recycling system. According to the colleagues from The Karolinska Institute, professor Yoshinori Ohsumi made “brilliant experiments” in the 1990s on autophagy. Tat is the phenomenon that literally means “self-eating” and describes how cells gobble up damaged content and provide building blocks for renewal.
Such a discovery will help to develop drugs that can target an autophagy in various diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer. Professor Ohsumi, 71, in 2012 won the Kyoto Prize, Japan’s highest private award for global achievement. In 2016, he won the prestigious Nobel Prize for his tremendous work toward the curing incurable diseases on the cell level. The future is coming thanks to professor Ohsumi!
