The European Union is trying to settle the refugee crisis, this time, the EU Commission gives Bulgaria €108 million. This funding should help protect Bulgarian borders against an increasing flow of refugees, decided the leaders of the EU.
This week, European Union gives Bulgaria €108 million for protecting its borders from the refugees. A crisis caused by the flow of illegal migrants and refugees in Europe demands more and more funding. According to the official statistic, over a million people fleeing conflict in the Middle East and poverty in Africa, all this flow arrived in Europe in 2015/16, mostly coming via Turkey to Greece or Bulgaria.
Bulgaria noted a rising of a migrant flow through its territory, it has intensified dramatically since June. The refugee flow is the same, if one EU country refuses to enter migrants, they are just heading to the neighbour country. No one getting back to the Middle East, moreover, the illegal flow is rising too.
The EU Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker assured that grant will help more than one country. On Friday, he told reporters in Bratislava meeting that:
“Bulgaria is facing a very serious problem. This has to be seen not as a major problem for Bulgaria, this has to be seen as a problem of the EU. Bulgaria is not left alone.”
Meanwhile, Bulgaria requested the increased financial support from the EU, which promised to raise given an amount to €160 million.
