Mars simulation crew from six members has successfully ‘returned’ to Earth after 365 days in isolation. Six scientists spent a year in near isolation to simulate life on Mars. Their special home — a gigantic dome HI-SEAS was built on Mauna Loa volcano, 8,500 feet above sea level.
Mars simulation crew went outside of their dome on Mauna Loa after 365 days mission. Their aim was a scientific experiment, whether the human is able to survive during a year-long mission on Mars. The six crew members could go outside only if they wore spacesuits, to explore a barren landscape as similar to Mars’ environment as planet Earth can offer.
Mars simulation crew went outside on Sunday, wearing the common garments, no spacesuits. The mission is over, and now other scientists will be developing the strategy for the next mission to Mars. According to the crew, the simulation had demonstrated that a mission to Mars could succeed in the near future.

The Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation (HI-SEAS) replicated living conditions on Mars to address problems that may arise in future space missions. The Mission crew members are Tristan Bassingthwaighte, Sheyna Gifford, Andrzej Stewart, Christiane Heinicke, Carmel Johnston, Cyprien Verseux.
