Bryan brothers withdraw from Olympic Games, cite health priority

Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, will not participate in 2016 Olympic Games, the tennis players announced their decision on their Facebook page Saturday. The withdrawal’s reason is health concerns, many athletes from different countries prefer not to go to Rio due to health issued. There is no mention in their statement regarding Zika virus, indeed.

The Olympic champions of London OI 2012, Bob and Mike Bryan, withdraw from the Olympic Games in Rio. The famous twins explained their decision for the simple reason — they are not only tennis players but husbands and fathers, too. Their families’ health prevails over the winnings on the court, even in terms of Olympiad. Our the top priority is health,” concluded the Bryan brothers.

The Bryans are champions of the 2012 London Games, twins hold the second position in the ATP doubles rating. During their career Bob and Mike have won 16 Grand Slam titles — that’s a world’s record in men doubles.

Other tennis players who decided to withdraw from OI 2106 are Americans John Isner and Sam Querrey, both explained their absence with the scheduling issues. Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych, and Simona Halep stated that will not participate in Rio Games because of Zika, which may link to birth defects.
