American billionaire Elon Musk spent more than $250 million to help future US President Donald Trump win the country’s presidential election, the New York Times reports, citing federal documents.
⠀
Previously, Musk has repeatedly expressed support for Trump on his social network X.
⠀
“Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars in the final months of this year’s election to help Donald Trump win the presidency,” the report said.
⠀
The newspaper, calling the amount “mind-boggling,” said it plays a role in shaping the next administration. It also included a $20 million donation to support a political action committee named after Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who tried to help Trump by softening his position on abortion, the newspaper reported.
⠀
According to the New York Times, Musk’s total spending on US elections is not yet known, and probably never will be.
⠀
Musk has become increasingly politically active over the years and regularly comments on issues of American politics on his social network X. At the same time, he previously publicly criticized both Democrats and Republicans, saying that he does not support either party, but over time his views have become more and more right, and already this year he openly declared his support for the Republican Party.
