US President Donald Trump nominated businessman and art collector John Phelan for the post of US Secretary of the Navy.

“It is my honor to announce John Phelan as our next Secretary of the Navy,” Trump said in a statement.


Phelan, 59, is one of the founders of MSD Capital and has a degree in political science and an MBA from Harvard. Phelan’s investment company is based in Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump lives most of the time. Phelan collects works of art. In August, he hosted a Trump campaign fundraiser that added $38 million to the Republican.


Trump previously nominated TV presenter Pete Hegseth for the post of head of the Pentagon. At the same time, Hegseth served in the army, including in “hot” spots.
