American entrepreneur Elon Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, who are to head the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), propose requiring federal civil servants to go to work five days a week, according to their joint article for the Wall Street Journal.

The authors of the article write that the law gives the president the authority to “establish rules governing the work of a competing service.” Musk and Ramaswami believe that, having such powers, Donald Trump could introduce rules in this area “that will limit the growth of the administrative apparatus” and will include, in particular, large-scale layoffs, as well as the relocation of federal services outside Washington.

“Requiring federal workers to report to work five days a week will lead to a wave of voluntary layoffs, which we welcome: If federal workers don’t want to come to work, American taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay them for the COVID-era privilege of staying home.”, the article said.

The new US Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) previously announced a search for employees for the department, among the conditions – an ultra-high IQ and a willingness to work more than 80 hours a week.

Earlier, Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, said that Musk and Ramaswami would head the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The name of the new department refers to Dogecoin (DOGE), a cryptocurrency of which Musk is a supporter. She was named after the Internet meme Doge, which depicts a puzzled Shiba Inu dog.
