The death toll from Hurricane Milton in Florida has reached at least 16 people, CBS  reported, citing US officials.

Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida’s central west coast late Wednesday, reaching Category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Several tornadoes passed through the state before the storm, causing additional damage.

“At least 16 deaths are related to the hurricane,” the channel indicates.

It is noted that temporary shelters provided for disaster victims are overcrowded, while prices for hotel rooms have risen sharply.


According to the TV channel, until recently, many gas stations in Florida remained closed and residents faced difficulties finding fuel.


On October 7, US President Joe Biden signed an order declaring a state of emergency in Florida due to Milton approaching the state and ordered federal assistance to be provided to local authorities. The hurricane made landfall on the west coast of Florida on Thursday night. According to the monitoring portal PowerOutage.us, almost 3.4 million Florida residents were left without electricity due to the disaster. The death toll from the disaster has risen to 14.
