Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces Wieslaw Kukula announced the need to return to universal conscription in the country.
⠀
“Everything points to the fact that we are the generation that will stand up in arms to defend our state. And neither I nor any of you are going to lose this war. We will win it, come back and continue to build Poland , but something has to happen. We must create armed forces prepared for this kind of action,” Kukula said in the Army Academy in Warsaw.
⠀
At the same time, he pointed to demographic problems that affect the recruitment of the army.
⠀
“The rate of recruitment will not continue. The enemy’s potential is so great that we definitely need to build a large army, which means we also need to implement a universal service model. And professional soldiers, reserve soldiers and territorial defense soldiers will be one conglomerate.”, the Chief of the General Staff added.
⠀
Earlier, Polish Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh said that the Polish Army had become the third NATO army in terms of numbers, reaching 205 thousand soldiers.
⠀
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a new law “On the Defense of the Fatherland,” according to which the size of the Polish army, including territorial defense troops, will increase to 300 thousand people.
