The Japanese Prime Minister spoke in favor of strengthening the alliance with the United States.

The new Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, advocated strengthening the alliance with the United States as the basis for the country’s security, as well as interaction with partner countries, he stated this in his keynote speech in parliament, broadcast on the website of the lower house.

“In the modern world, there is a process of division and confrontation. In these conditions, with the help of a foreign policy based on realistic national interests, with the alliance of Japan and the United States as the core, increasing the number of partner and friendly countries, we will strengthen diplomatic strength and defense capabilities in a balanced manner… Alliance of Japan and the United States is the core of Japanese foreign policy and Japanese security, the basis of peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and in the world. First of all, we will greatly strengthen the deterrence and response forces of this alliance, and we will also strengthen interaction with partner countries.” , –  Ishiba said.

He also recalled the thesis of his predecessor, ex-Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, that “today’s Ukraine is perhaps tomorrow’s East Asia.”
