The head of the German Ministry of Finance commented on the results of the elections in Saxony and Thuringia.

German Finance Minister and head of the Free Liberals (FDP) Christian Lindner said that the results of regional elections in Saxony and Thuringia hurt him.

Elections to the state parliaments of Saxony and Thuringia took place on Sunday. According to exit polls, the FDP does not gain 5% in either of the two states, which means it does not qualify for these legislative bodies.

“The results in Saxony and Thuringia are painful. But no one should doubt that we will not give up the fight for liberal values. It will continue tomorrow. Other parties in the democratic center also have something to think about,” Lindner wrote on the social network X .

According to the survey, the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party wins in Thuringia with a score of 30.5%, which could be its first victory at the regional level. In Saxony, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is predicted to win with 31.5% of the vote, with the AfD trailing only 1.5 percentage points.
