The Left Party of Germany opposed the militarization of German society.

On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the start of World War II, the Left Party of Germany (LP) spoke out against the militarization of German society and the restoration of compulsory conscription into the army in the country.

“85 years ago, the Second World War began with the German invasion of Poland <…>. This is not only a day of remembrance, but also a reminder: never again should war come from German soil!” –  a statement posted on the LP page on X (formerly Twitter) says.

Wars, as the party emphasized, always begin with militarization and the build-up of weapons.

“Today we are again witnessing the normalization of arms build-up and war, while a social crisis is smoldering in the country,” the Left Party noted.

We say no to the build-up of armaments, the return of conscription and the militarization of our society. For diplomacy and the policy of détente!” –  the LP stated.

On September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany attacked Poland. Thus began World War II, which lasted six years and claimed tens of millions of lives.
