The United States fears an increase in the number of ICBMs in North Korea’s arsenal.

The United States cannot confidently estimate the number of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in North Korea’s inventory and fears it is approaching the threshold of American defensive capabilities, Gregory Guillot, head of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said.

“North Korea’s closed society and sophisticated security apparatus… prevent us from confidently assessing the number of ICBMs in their arsenal. I am concerned that Kim Jong Un’s growing stockpile of ICBMs may be approaching our ability to defend North America,” he warned at the hearing in the Senate.

New liquid and solid fuel missiles recently tested by the DPRK may, according to Guillot, be able to deliver a nuclear warhead anywhere in the United States. The North Korean threat will only increase as plans to switch to serial production of ICBMs and equip them with multiple warheads with individual targeting units are implemented, the general warned.
