Former French Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterrand has died.

Former French Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterrand died at the age of 76.

According to his family, Mitterrand died at his home in Paris after several months of fighting cancer.
Mitterrand was the nephew of President Francois Mitterrand, who led France from 1981 to 1995.
Mitterrand Jr. served as Minister of Culture from 2009 to 2012 in the government of President Nicolas Sarkozy.

In 2005, Frédéric Mitterrand published a controversial book, A Bad Life, about his travels in Thailand and the Maghreb. Already while working in the government, he was forced to fight off accusations of relationships with minors and propaganda of pedophilia.


In 2011, Mitterrand was awarded the Russian Order of Friendship for his significant contribution to the development of Russian-French cooperation.
