More than 46 journalists were killed and more than 531 were jailed in 2023, with impunity for these crimes increasing, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said.

“So far this year, more than 46 journalists have been killed for their work, more than 531 jailed and countless others have suffered intolerable harassment and violence. Impunity must stop. These attacks are unacceptable,” he wrote on his X account.
