North Korea condemned the actions of Canada, which continues to send its military to the Korean Peninsula to monitor compliance with the sanctions regime against the DPRK, the DPRK Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA) reports.

Since 2018, Canada, under the flag of Operation Neon, has periodically sent warships, aircraft and personnel to the region to monitor the implementation of UN Security Council sanctions against the DPRK, including at sea. According to the Canadian military, the frigate HMCS Vancouver has been involved in the operation since September 1, 2023.

According to KCNA international observer La Chong Min, Canada attaches great importance to ensuring security in the Indo-Pacific region and globally. But due to the “reckless machinations” of the United States to build up its armed forces and its “aggressive joint military exercises” on the Korean Peninsula, a “tense and acute” situation has developed in the Northeast Asia region.
⠀
“It is not difficult to understand that the transfer of fighter jets and ships to this hot spot is a most dangerous action, comparable to adding fuel to the fire… Canada’s behavior not only violates stability in the Asia-Pacific region, but also security in the world and on the Korean Peninsula, and is also a stupid choice , leading to a violation of the security of their own country,” the columnist writes.

La Chong Min noted that Canada “pretends” to be contributing to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, but so far has only “violated peace and security and escalated confrontation.” He calls Canada a “servant of the US“, which in the past sent mercenary troops to participate in the Korean War (1950-1953), “started by the US“, and now also plays a “major role” in implementing hostile US policies towards the DPRK.
