The Polish minister named the condition for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is possible only after fulfilling certain conditions on agriculture, Polish Minister of Agriculture and Food Robert Telus told reporters after the end of the meeting of the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries.

“Ukraine is trying, wants to join the European Union. Good. But it must meet certain criteria. It must fulfill certain conditions,” the Polish minister said.

“We, as Europe, as the European Union, must create mechanisms, tools to ensure that Ukrainian agriculture does not threaten European agriculture,” he added.

On September 15, the European Commission decided not to extend restrictions on the import of four types of Ukrainian agricultural products into several EU border countries, but obliged Kyiv to introduce export control measures. After this, the authorities of Slovakia, Hungary and Poland announced that they were extending the ban unilaterally. In particular, Hungary extended the ban on a national basis; 24 products were included in the list of prohibited imports. In addition to grains, the list included various types of meat, poultry, eggs, honey, vegetables and wine.
