22 thousand residents of Nagasaki Prefecture were advised to evacuate.

More than 22.5 thousand people in the Japanese prefecture of Nagasaki were advised to evacuate due to heavy rains.

In several areas of the city of Sasebo, a threat level of four out of five was declared, recommending evacuation to a safe place while movement on the street is still possible.

The fifth, highest level of threat means the need for emergency and urgent measures to save one’s life, including in cases where moving along the street to an evacuation point is no longer possible for security reasons. Literally, the fifth level of evacuation can be translated as “emergency ensuring (own) safety.” In particular, the population is urged to take shelter above the second floor and, if possible, choose the safest place without going outside.

Prolonged heavy rains hitting the prefecture are increasing the risk of landslides and floods.
