New York to drop its mask mandate for vaccinated people

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the state ends its obligatory mode of face mask wearing. Since Wednesday, the rules will be changed for vaccinated people.

The US government and the state of NY have joined their efforts to curb the spread of the novel pathogen. As the mass immunization programme has been rolled out across the country, New York to drop its mask mandate for vaccinated people.

Beginning Wednesday, the people who received the two shots of the anti-COVID vaccine will be able not to wear a mask. “Unvaccinated people should continue to wear a mask,” Governor Cuomo added in a tweet announcing the change on Monday.

Commenting on the news, Cuomo explained that face coverings will still be required on public transit, in schools, and in “some communal settings”. Private businesses are still allowed to require masks if they decide to do so, he said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week said that vaccinated people no longer needed to wear masks in most indoor or outdoor settings, The Insider has learned.
