The curfew imposed in six districts of Sri Lanka, according to the presidential press office.
The extraordinary measures are taken by the Sri Lankan government to curtail the COVID-19 infection spread in the country. In fact, the curfew will have to continue until the end of the below-mentioned time period.
As President’s Media Division announced, curfew in other 19 districts will be lifted at 6 am on Monday and will be re-imposed at 2 pm and will continue until further notice, Asian Tribune reports on Sunday.
The statement from President MD comes amid the fast-spreading of the novel pathogen across Asia. This, in order to strengthen the efforts of the Government to prevent spread of COVID-19 virus in Sri Lanka, the duration from April 6 to 10 had also been declared as a ‘Work from Home’ period.
The statement also said the preventive measure will apply to all State, semi-government and private sector entities except which are categorized as essential services.
The curfew aimed at ensuring the well-being of all Sri Lankans in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, the government requests the public to strictly follow WHO guidelines in a responsible manner.
Meantime, the Director-General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe says that the inquiries into the COVID-19 infections have been intensified. People obliged to alert the health authorities immediately if virus symptoms appear through the hotline 1390 if they suffer respiratory issues.
As the local health authorities suppose, the upcoming weeks will be critical as Sri Lanka would be able to gain some insight into the control of the spread of infection by April 17.
As of April 5, Sri Lanka had 166 confirmed COVID-19 cases and five deaths. To summarize, more than 10,000 people have been arrested in Sri Lanka since a curfew intended to slow the spread of the novel infection was imposed on March 20.
