The Chinese city Wuhan celebrates the closure of the last temporary emergency hospital that built to handle the coronavirus crisis. As the Gulf Today reports, health chiefs confirmed a dramatic fall in cases in China. As of Tuesday, only 12 new cases recorded on one day as tally falls.
To control coronavirus, China quickly built 14 new emergency hospitals in just two weeks. Two of them were functioning in Wuhan since early February to provide thousands of beds for the patients while the COVID-19 spreads fast.
On Tuesday, the country’s last emergency hospital was closed and the doctors removed their masks ceremoniously to mark that milestone.
Obviously, the strict quarantine measures appear to have drastically reduced the number of new cases in Wuhan, and the authorities have eased up on the measures in its hardest-hit Chinese region.
After declaring they had “basically” curbed the spread of the disease within China, where the pathogen first emerged, authorities are now worried about an influx of infections arriving from other countries.
Beijing’s city government has ordered international arrivals from Monday onwards to go into quarantine facilities for 14 days.
China’s sad coronavirus statistics
The progress in China contrasts with the growing crisis abroad, with the worldwide death toll surpassing 6,000 as Italy recorded its biggest one-day rise in fatalities.
In fact, China has recorded 80,824 cases of coronavirus since the start of the outbreak at the end of last year. The death toll now stands at 3,213 after 14 more fatalities were reported on Monday.
It is important to note that more than 65,000 people have already recovered from COVID-19 in China.
