After three people were killed in an attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic on Colorado on Friday, many politicians expressed their regrets and Democrats, in the virtue of the Colorado Springs shooting, even brought up the gun control issue again, says ABC News.
Hillary Clinton had a whole speech for this
Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton held a speech in New Hampshire last night during her dinner at the Jefferson-Jackson in Manchester. The former Secretary of Defense stated that, without doubt, the Planned Parenthood organization should be helped and supported after the Colorado Springs shooting.
“We should be supporting Planned Parenthood, not attacking it. And it is way past time for us to protect women’s health and respect women’s rights not use them as political footballs. Here in New Hampshire, Republicans on your executive council cut off funding to Planned Parenthood. And in Congress and on the campaign trail, Republicans who claim they just hate big government are only too happy to have government step in when it comes to women’s bodies and health. It’s wrong and we’re not going to stand for it.”, said Clinton, quoted by the same source.
The presidential candidate added that Planned Parenthood is a place where women can have “breast exams and STD testing, contraception and yes safe and legal abortions.”. She then turn the discussion towards the gun control policy. “How many more Americans need to die before we take action?”, asked Clinton.
Martin O’Malley thinks it was an act of terror
Her Democratic rival, Martin O’Malley, also condemned the Colorado Springs shooting. “This most recent act of terror took place at a Planned Parenthood. Others have taken place in classrooms, in schools, in church basements. We cannot treat these acts of terrible violence as isolated events. We have call them what they are: acts of intolerance, racism, and hate. They are designed to prey on the vulnerable and the unsuspecting. They are acts of terror.”, said O’Malley, according to ABC News.
Ben Carson is pledging for peace
Planned Parenthood blamed GOP candidates for inflaming the spirits which led to the Colorado Springs shooting. Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson advised pro-choice and pro-life advocates to express their differences in a peaceful manner, excluding actions that could lead to violence.
“What we really have to start asking ourselves is what can we do as a nation to rectify the situation. I think we should talk about the actual facts. If we can get rid of the rhetoric from either side and actually talk about the facts, I think that’s when we begin to make progress.”, said Carson on Sunday on ABC’s “This Week”.
Carly Fiorina, another Republican candidate, called the shooting a “tragedy” although she stands in the main opposition to the Planned Parenthood.
Donald Trump had an opinion too
Of course, Donald Trump also had something to say about the Colorado Springs shooting. “What I would say to anyone who tries to link this terrible tragedy to anyone who opposes abortion or opposes the sale of body parts, this is typical left-wing tactics.”, claimed the businessman yesterday, according to ABC News.
