Nigeria’s police confirmed that two American and two Canadian citizens kidnapped for ransom in Nigeria on Wednesday have been freed, BBC reports.

Four foreigners were ambushed in a forested area north of the Abuja, now are free. Two US and two Canada citizens were found during a joint military and police operation, now all of them are in good health, the police of Nigerian capital said.

On Tuesday around 7 pm, four foreign businessmen travelled from Kafanchan, Kaduna state, to Abuja, they were ambushed along the Kwoi-Jere road. On Saturday, the successful police operation made the foreigners free at Jere area in Kagarko local government of Kaduna, Agyole Abeh, Kaduna state police commissioner, confirmed. Two Canadian and two US businessmen were kidnapped for ransom, that is the common way for many Nigerians to make their living, the most recent abducted foreigners were two German archaeologists in February.

The commissioner said the police was determined to crush all criminal gangs and called for the support of members of the public by being vigilant and providing the police with useful and confidential information about the activities of criminals in the community. The criminals don’t like to have long talks about ransom, last October, four Britons were abducted in the Niger Delta region. One was killed while three others were released after negotiations. In fact, the local police did not say if a ransom was paid before Americans’ release.
