The Sopranos, an iconic TV series, can get a prequel, says the creator David Chase. Ten years ago, the director opted the very strange final for the crime drama, so, prequel may be the right decision.
Back in The Sopranos series finale, we saw the Soprano family — Tony, Carmella, Anthony Jr. and Meadow — gathering for a meal at a restaurant while an upbeat Journey tune played on the soundtrack. A sense of anticipation built, teasing the possibility of a final burst of violence.
In the middle of the final scene, it just cut to a black screen and that was it, the most famous crime drama by HBO was over. The current era of prestige television really began with The Sopranos, undoubtedly.
Ten years after, a creator David Chase has had to defend the move ever since. The Sopranos became an iconic TV series, which opened a totally new era in the entertainment industry. A decade later people still discuss that cut and what it meant and whether The Sopranos could ever come back to television.
Mr Chase is open to the idea of prequel, not a sequel. Jamea Gandolfini isn’t a replaceble actor, he was too bright, a real Tony S!

In his interview with EW, David thanked for the marking The Sopranos‘ finale’s 10th anniversary and brought up the subject of reviving the show, and possibly even showing what happened after the cut-to-black.
The prequel for The Sopranos is quite possible
Even after the finale of the TV series about NJ mafia boss, Chase did leave open the possibility of the series returning in a different form. After passing away of James Gandolfini, the shooting of new episodes became just impossible but the prequel is still on the agenda. Such director’s movement would not mean continuing the story beyond the infamous finale and replacing the original cast
“I could only conceive of maybe a prequel of The Sopranos. I could never see [a return of the sjow] except as a prequel,”
said David Chase.
Just the fact that people still talk about The Sopranos and wish to return to that world is a testament to the impact the series had when it ran on HBO.
