Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to South Africa on August 21-24 and attend the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Friday.

“At the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to South Africa from August 21 to 24, and will also attend the 15th BRICS Summit to be held in Johannesburg,” said Hua Chunying.


The diplomat also said that during his stay in South Africa, Xi Jinping, along with Cyril Ramaphosa, will also chair the China-Africa Leaders’ Summit.


The BRICS summit will be held in Johannesburg on August 22-24, where the leaders of China, India, Brazil and South Africa will be present, Russia will be represented by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he would participate in the summit via videoconference.
