Former US President Donald Trump’s defense priority is to drop all charges against him, Jim Trusty, the ex-president’s lawyer said.
⠀
“Petes to drop (charges) should be a priority as they amputate this miscarriage of justice,” he said.
⠀
Trusty added that the upcoming motions will be “very robust” and also conceded that Trump’s defense could try to change the judiciary from Manhattan County, which is “a stronghold of liberalism and activism” that “infects the whole process.”
⠀
Speaking about the reaction of Trump himself to the charges against him, the lawyer noted that the former head of state is very upset by the current situation, but remains steadfast.
⠀
“If we don’t close this in some way, we will have a whole new model of criminal justice in this country,” Trusty concluded.
⠀
On Tuesday, Trump was charged with 34 falsification of business records in connection with payments to two women, including pornographic actress Stormy Daniels, for keeping silent about their alleged connection.
⠀
According to Fox News, the maximum possible sentence for the totality of the charges against Trump is 136 years in prison. The ex-president himself declared his innocence and was released from the criminal court of Manhattan. Trump’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, said the allegations against his client lacked facts. In an interview Takopin said that Manhattan Attorney Alvin Bragg is being used as a weapon in the case against the former head of state, and that political circles influence the work of the justice system.
