President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said that the country’s authorities will never turn a blind eye to radical religious movements and religious separatism.

“Kazakhstan is a secular state. Our constitution guarantees freedom of religion. However, being a secular and tolerant country does not mean turning a blind eye to various radical movements and religious separatism. We will never jeopardize the security and integrity of the country,” he said at a meeting with public of Atyrau region.

As Tokayev noted, “for many centuries our ancestors professed Islam, which harmoniously combines Sharia norms with the national way of life.”

“The values ​​of Islam contribute to strengthening the unity of the nation. Our duty is to protect and honor the traditions of our ancestors. In this context, it is very important to give the right guidelines to our youth,” the head of state said.
