The US presidential candidate said that Biden would withdraw his candidacy.

Independent US presidential candidate Cornel West said US President Joe Biden may not reach the general presidential election stage in 2024 because he could suddenly withdraw his nomination due to growing criticism, Politico reports.

“The independent presidential candidate suggested that the incumbent might abruptly end his re-election bid, as President Lyndon Johnson did when he shocked the nation in 1968,” the newspaper writes.

During the interview, West said he doesn’t think the president can handle the growing criticism he’s receiving on virtually everything from the Gaza conflict to the American economy.

“I’m just saying that I don’t rule out this possibility, given the instability of the situation <…> He ran out of gas,” the candidate added.

West also criticized former US President Donald Trump, calling him “a real gangster, a neo-fascist, a pied piper, leading the country to a second civil war.” At the same time, he described Biden as “a milky neoliberal with military adventurism, which may lead the world to a third world war.”

According to the politician, in domestic matters he is more concerned about Trump’s candidacy, while from the point of view of foreign policy it is Biden who is most concerned.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. Polls show Trump as the clear favorite in the Republican primary. He is expected to be opposed by current US President Joe Biden. According to polls, Trump is well positioned to win in 2024.
