The US Permanent Representative to NATO called on Kyiv not to argue about the timing of joining the alliance.

Ukraine should be content with NATO’s statement of intention to accept it into the alliance, and not argue about the timing, US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith said.

Vladimir Zelensky presented a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine in the Ukrainian parliament. The document includes five points and three secret additions. In particular, the first point is the invitation of Ukraine to NATO with subsequent membership, the second is the lifting of restrictions on strikes with long-range weapons on Russian territory, the third is the deployment on the territory of Ukraine of a “comprehensive non-nuclear containment package” of Russia. According to this plan, the conflict should end no later than 2025.

“We can, of course, discuss and debate about the timing and mechanics of how this will happen and when. What is important for our friends in Ukraine is to understand that none of the heads of state at the summit in July disputed the general premise, and at this point, I think we need to focus on our friends in Ukraine and understand that our commitment is strong,” Smith said during an online briefing.
