The period of stay of Ukrainian refugees has been extended in Poland.

Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law extending the legality of Ukrainian refugees staying in the republic until September 30, 2025, the office of the head of state reported. 

According to widespread information, Duda signed the “Law of May 15, 2024 on amendments to the Law on assistance to citizens of Ukraine in connection with the armed conflict on the territory of this country and some other acts.” The new provisions have now officially entered into force.

In accordance with the document, those citizens of Ukraine who have been assigned a Polish individual personal number (PESEL) with the mark “UKR”, which indicates that the person is a Ukrainian refugee, can legally stay until the end of September 2025.

The law also extends access to medical, family and social benefits for Ukrainian refugees for the same period.


During the voting in parliament, 381 deputies voted for this bill, 19 were against (14 from the Confederation faction of nationalists and Eurosceptics and 5 from the opposition Law and Justice party). 20 deputies abstained.


According to various estimates, there are up to one and a half million Ukrainian citizens in Poland.
