The head of the Ministry of Digital Development of Iran called the reason for the temporary shutdown of the Internet.

The Internet outage in Iran last week, on Wednesday, was due to a major cyber attack, Isa Zarepur, the country’s Information and Communications Technology Minister, said.

“The Internet outage last week was due to a major cyber attack, which was repelled thanks to the efforts of employees of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications Technology … The preliminary investigation indicates a very large cyber attack that caused a drop in traffic,” the minister said.

Iranian media reported on January 25 that the internet went down for several minutes throughout the country. Later that day, the public relations department of the Iranian Telecommunications Infrastructure Company reported that the problem had been fixed.
