The death toll from the earthquake in northwestern China has risen to 118, China Central Television reported.

According to the TV channel, 105 people died in Gansu province and 13 in Qinghai province. In addition, in Qinghai province, 20 people were lost contact, and another 182 people were injured.

On Tuesday, China’s Ministry of Emergency Management introduced a heightened, second-level earthquake response regime. According to the department, 1,440 firefighters and rescuers were deployed in the disaster area.


An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred on Monday at 23:59 in Jishishan Bao’an Dongxiang Salar Autonomous County, Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, northwestern China’s Gansu Province.
